Somers Library Introduces New Hours SOMERS, N.Y. -- Beginning, this month, the Somers Library is operating on new hours. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday hours will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday hours will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., which the library said is to assist commuters returning home. Saturday hours, which are unchanged, are still from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the library remains closed on Sundays. Terry Losicco, Convicted Murderer Of Somers Woman, Gets Parole SOMERS, N.Y. -- Terry Losicco, the man convicted in the 1980 murder of Somers resident Eleanor Prouty, has been granted parole, according to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCSS) Losicco, 52, is tentatively scheduled to be released from prison on March 3, according to the DOCSS overview of his parole status. He is currently an inmate at the Fishkill Correctional Facility and has been incarcerated in prison for 415 months. Railroad-Crossing Safety A Priority Year After Deadly Westchester Crash VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Scrutiny of grade crossings remains a focus a year after six people were killed when a train struck at car at a a Valhalla intersection. The Commerce Street crossing, where the collision happened, is one of four such locations within the town of Mount Pleasant, Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi said. Bedford Village Elementary Hosting 8th-Annual Spelling Bee BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Bedford Village Elementary School (BVES) is hosting its eighth-annual spelling bee Wednesday evening. Katonah Art Center Gets New Home In Goldens Bridge GOLDENS BRIDGE, N.Y. -- For Katonah Art Center owner Loren Anderson, a recent move to Goldens Bridge has been a homecoming of sorts. Anderson is a South Salem resident and founded the center there roughly 20 years ago. Somers Education Foundation Postpones Blackjack Ball Due To Snowstorm SOMERS, N.Y. -- The Somers Education Foundation (SEF) will be holding its blackjack ball at a later date due to this past weekend's snowstorm. SEF cited safety as the reason for postponing the event, which will now be held on March 19. The blackjack ball, according to SEF, will be at the same time and place as on the original date. South Salem Firefighters, Lewisboro Ambulance Corps, Hold CPR Drill SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps (LVAC) announced that it recently teamed up with South Salem firefighters for drill to test a special CPR method. North Salem Library Hosting 'Ben's Chess Class' For Kids NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library in North Salem is offering chess classes for elementary school-age children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The sessions, known as "Ben's Chess Class," are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 28 and Wednesday, Feb. 3. Both sessions will take place from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the library.
