Bedford Central's Budgetary Pressure Eases Slightly With State-Aid Boost BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Although the Bedford Central School District continues to face a tough fiscal landscape, a boost in state aid will be beneficial. The district is set to receive an aid increase of 754,077, or 13.2 percent, as a result of the state's new budget, according to an announcement from Assemblyman David Buchwald. The new state budget includes a full repeal of the much-maligned Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA), which was imposed during the recession. Lewisboro Town Board Honors Local Eagle Scout Steven Palmesi SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Lewisboro's Town Board honored local Eagle Scout Steven Palmesi during a meeting last week. A proclamation, which was read in Palmesi's honor, notes his achievements in scouting. Fox Lane MS Students Performing In 'You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown' BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Fox Lane Middle School students will be performing renditions of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" this weekend for their spring play, the according to announcements from Bedford Central officials. Music Conservancy To Perform At North Castle Library ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Music Conservancy of Westchester is scheduled to perform at the North Castle Public Library on Sunday, April 3. The conservancy's visit will include performances of classical music by Bach, Schubert and Beethoven. Additionally, there will be discussions about the composers and their contributions to culture. Former Greeley Teacher's Sex-Abuse Case Slowed By Scheduling Conflict CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- A scheduling conflict for the attorney defending former Horace Greeley High School drama teacher Christopher Schraufnagel against sexual-abuse accusations has caused the legal process to slow down. The attorney, Stacey Richman, cited her involvement with an unrelated trial in Manhattan when she requested another adjournment during a Thursday appearance at New Castle's town court in Chappaqua. Bedford Central Teachers Rally For Repealing State-Aid Cut MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- A crowd of Bedford Central teachers held a rally in downtown Mount Kisco on Wednesday to demand that the state government roll back a recession-era program that withholds aid promised to school districts. Bedford Free Library Invites Kids, Teens To Enter Poetry Contest BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The Bedford Free Library announced that it will hold its annual poetry contest this April. Children and teenagers from ages 6 to 18 are eligible to enter. The contest is meant to coincide with National Poetry Month. It is also sponsored by The Friends of the Library. Bedford School Officials Propose Tax-Cap Override To Close $8.8M Budget Gap BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Voters in the Bedford Central School District could be asked whether to override the state-mandated property tax levy cap as part of the proposed 2016-17 budget. District administrators recently unveiled a budget that includes an increase in the tax levy, which is the aggregate amount of tax revenue to be collected, of 3.82 percent, or by $4,345,410.
