Meth, Cocaine, Guns: Frenchtown Man Arrested After Traffic Stop A 55-year-old Alexandria man was arrested and charged with firearms and narcotics offenses following an arrest during a traffic stop, authorities announced Friday, Aug. 1. On Monday, July 14, Scott Hopkins’ vehicle was pulled over, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson said. During the stop, Hopkins was in possession of cocaine, Robeson said. Acting Prosecutor Named In Hudson County: AG Wayne Mello has been named Acting Prosecutor of Hudson County, the State Attorney General’s office announced Saturday, Aug. 2. Mello replaces longtime Prosecutor Esther Suarez, who recently retired after 10 years. 17-Year-Old Shot in Newark: Police A 17-year-old boy was shot in Newark on Saturday, Aug. 2, authorities said. At 8:28 p.m., officers responded to Camp Street near Orchard Street and found the 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said. He was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in critical but stable condition, Miranda said. The shooting remains under investigation, Miranda said.

Tractor Trailer Plows Into Route 31 Strip Club: Firefighters A collision between a tractor trailer and a car ended in the truck crashing into a strip club on Route 31 in Hunterdon County on Saturday, Aug. 2, authorities said. At 5:36 a.m., a crash occurred between the car and the tractor trailer on Route 31 in Hampton Borough, South Branch Emergency Services said. Car Crash With Injures Snarls Traffic On Bedminster In Somerset County: Njdot A 21-year-old woman was injured after her car crashed into a tree on Route 287 in Somerset County in Monday, Aug. 4, authorities said. At 7:35 a.m., a Nissan SUV was traveling northbound on Route 287 in Bedminster Township when it ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey Police said. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said. The crash led to traffic being heavily backed up in the area, footage from NJDOT showed. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.
